Security forces in Somalia’s northeastern state of Puntland have today dismantled Improvised Explosive Device (IED) buried on a roadside in Bossaso town in Bari region.
Following tips off by the public, the security forces cordoned off the road before defusing the bomb reported to have been planted on the road according to statement by the forces.
“The forces successfully dismantled explosive device concealed on the roadside. There is no threat as we have defused it. The security forces will continue to hunt down the perpetrators of the act,” the statement reads in part.
Photos published by the Puntland Security Forces on their twitter handle showed bomb experts defusing the IED.
Locals in the port city told Hiiraan Online that they heard explosion in the city centre but sources privy to the development said the blast was caused by the IED exploded by the security forces.
It is not yet clear who planted the IED but Al-Shabaab and ISIS militants previously targeted Puntland officials and military with explosives buried on roadsides.
